Regular Homework Begins
Beginning of the year assessments & review are complete and this week will begin our first theme (unit) in Reading! In addition to the math homework pages, your child will bring home a blue "reading link" sheet and a spelling lesson sheet. We no longer have spelling tests in 1st grade, however, the spelling lessons go along with our phonics practice from the reading curriculum. The spelling patterns are still taught and assessed in writing, just not in a traditional "spelling test" which you are used to seeing.
All assignments, other than the 5 recorded books, are due on Fridays! Please help your child get into good homework habits now. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding homework. These first couple of weeks will be flexible for flipping cards, however starting in October your child will have to flip on Friday if any assignment is missing - no exceptions. Thank you for your support in extending our class lessons at home! Your involvement is invaluable to your child's success and very much appreciated :)

A New Year Has Begun!
Well, the first week is under our belts! It was a wonderful first week getting to know your boys and girls! We have an incredibly sweet class of students that really try hard. I am already very impressed with the group of writers I have...wow! Stop by the hallway outside our room to see their awesome work already!
As we go throughout the year, I will be posting newsletters and event info here on our website. I will also feature photos and student work at times for those that have proper permission. I hope you will check back often & I look forward to a fantastic year in First Grade!!!
